Are you interested in becoming a member of GSCM?
We would love to have you join us!
GSCM was organized in 1975 by a group of people dedicated to genealogical and historical research. This dedication continues in the society today. We are a vibrant, active society with nearly 200 members nationwide and an outstanding research library and society publication.
- If you live nearby or visit Columbia, be sure to come to one of our meetings. They are held on the first Tuesday of each month except August, when we take a break for the Missouri State Genealogical Society's annual conference. The meetings are generally held at the Boone County Historical Society's museum (directions). Occasionally, however, we will meet elsewhere, such at another local research facility. Our June meeting is our annual Picnic on the Veranda, which is a great time to get to meet and greet all your fellow members (and eat some great food, too!).
- In addition to our meetings we also sponsor cemetery clean-up projects and organize car pools to genealogy conferences or research facilities.
- Of course, in a society like this, there are many opportunities to volunteer and get involved. We have many committees for you to choose from.
- If you live in central Missouri and are interested in your family history but are hesitant to join GSCM because you don't have central Missouri ancestors, don't let that stop you! Many of our local members don't have local (or even Missouri) ancestors. Our meetings do not revolve solely around central Missouri research. We have had presentations covering other states and countries, African-American genealogy, internet genealogy, local research resources and more!
- If you live a distance from us or are otherwise unable to come to our meetings, your membership includes 6 issues of the GSCM Reporter. The main focus of the GSCM Reporter is items of interest to central Missouri researchers, but general articles about genealogy research occasionally appear as well. (Click here to see the Table of Contents of the GSCM Reporter).
- Please feel free to stop by our library or a meeting and check us out! Membership is only $15.00 per year for an individual or family. Membership forms can be found in our library or here (in html format) or here (in pdf format). We hope to see your name on our membership list and your face at our next meeting!
